How to you draw a cartoon about Founder? First off it's not funny, at all. Second, unless you have some experience with Founder in your horse, it's difficult to see until the symptoms are severe; I'm talking about the "lean" where the horse is in such pain that it leans back on it's haunches to avoid putting any more pressure on the front legs.

So you can imagine my excitement when I got this request in my e-mail box. To add to my challenge I try not to have horses doing things in my cartoons that horses physically don't do such as standing on two feet vacuuming, because as funny as that might be my goal is to try to be horse funny, which means that the anthropomorphism is kept to a minimum as much as possible. I came up with the horse on a gurney. I didn't want the horse lying on it's side, so I invented a gurney that could carry the horse while keeping it upright. This way I could show the exhaustion, and the trembling legs, but keep the sense of emergency by having it pushed by a horse ambulance technician.
